On & Off Campus Dining FOOD For those who live off-campus and cook for themselves, there are many supermarkets and smaller grocers in the area. There is an excellent fresh-food Farmer's Market open four days per week, with many stores selling ethnic specialties. Hamilton also has many restaurants appealing to different tastes and budgets. Westdale (the area where McMaster is located) also boasts many bakeries and coffee shops. Coffee shops like My Dog Joe and Second Cup serve a variety of foods either on a cash basis or on a meal card.
DINING ON CAMPUS Hospitality Services offers a wide variety of dining locations throughout campus and provides numerous choices for dining, which include pizza, pasta, salad bars, deli bars, fresh fruit, vegetarian entrees, Chinese food, Mexican food, home-made baked goods and snack food . Prices are reasonable. Hospitality Services also offers an Off-Campus meal-plan for students not living in residence. The meal-plan system is flexible, where the dollar-value of your meal is deducted from your meal-plan account just by showing your student ID card. For meal plan information, visit http://hospitality.mcmaster.ca.
The Union Market is a student-run convenience store which is located on campus on the first floor of the Student Centre (MUSC). Note: The Union Market does not accept meal plans for purchases, but they do accept cash, credit cards and Interac (debit cards). Visit here for the Union Market's website that describes their wide range of services.
DINING OFF CAMPUS RESTAURANTS AND BARS Look in the Yellow Pages of the telephone directory under "Restaurant" or "Pub." The legal drinking age in Ontario is 19 years of age, and valid photo ID is required to purchase alcoholic beverages. Prices vary enormously from one place to another. It is customary to leave a 10-15% tip.
