We would like to extend a warm welcome on behalf of
McMaster University and the Hamilton community!
International Student Services (ISS) is an active and essential part of Student Affairs. As a student-centered service, our mandate is to deliver services to international students and internationally-minded Canadian students using a collaborative and integrated approach to learning. ISS provides an inclusive and positive environment for all students.
In concrete terms, we deliver 6 core services:
- Advice and assistance on issues related to visas and study or work permits, as required by Citizenship & Immigration Canada, employment, Social Insurance Number (SIN), Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and income tax filing, health insurance for international students (UHIP) and settlement support;
- New student orientation and cross-cultural information;
- Mentorship programs and numerous outdoor activities for international and exchange students
- Implementation, promotion and processing of applications for exchange programs to and from several universities around the world;
- Advice for internationally minded Canadian students on study / work and volunteer abroad opportunities.
- Workshops and information sessions on practical educational topics that are not taught in classrooms, such as study and work permits, the building of marketable portfolios, opportunities to get involved in the community (the key to a successful adjustment to Canada), cultural adaptation issues.
We are committed to developing a collaborative approach to learning with both international and domestic students. As partners in learning, our goal is to provide an environment in which all students can have a memorable experience at McMaster.
International Student Services works collaboratively with several other campus resources to materialize all that we mentioned above.
